Is Semi-permanent Makeup Bad for Your Health?

time2022/11/18

Is semi-permanent makeup bad for your health? Below we'll explore the ingredients we use and suggest some others you should be aware of.

Microblade Pigment
Infiltrating microblading and tinting pigments into the skin is a trend and big business...of course, we all want to get the right color, but for long-term results what is the color actually in the skin, and how do I know What is right for me and safe for my clients?

There are many regulatory bodies in the world. FDA does not regulate any inks or microblade pigments. Some authorities will do this - but it's always good to know for yourself what's in a microblade or semi-permanent makeup line.

Below we'll explore the ingredients we use and suggest some others you should be aware of.

Pigment Safety and Certification

Europe holds the rest of the world responsible for the certification of semi-permanent makeup and microblade pigments. Makeup treatments have been popular here for over 100 years, so experience and knowledge of the market are put to good use. The European Commission has a regulatory system to remove potentially dangerous toxins and chemicals.

The European Commission Resolution (CoE ResAP) (2008) is an internationally recognized benchmark. It includes a list of negative substances that should not be present in tattoo and permanent makeup inks and also determines the maximum concentrations of certain impurities that the ink may contain.

This certification is a good starting point. But according to the resolution, unfavorable ingredients are still present in some inks and pigments, and it says many ingredients will change from January 2022 when the new REACH regulation is introduced.

How Do I Know What's in My Microplastic or Semi-permanent Makeup?

Well-known brands will have ingredients on their bottles, and they will also have a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), a document that contains more detailed information about potential hazards. Also known as SDS or PSDS, your pigment formulation is critical and should not be underestimated.

If your brand doesn't offer both or use a sentence like "safe pigment mix," discard or just apply to fake skin practice.

What's in Safe Microblade Brow Powder?

Safe Microblade Eyebrow Powder is non-toxic, non-corrosive, non-irritating, and phototoxic, and fewer impurities mean skin is more receptive to pigment, resulting in better healing. They're vegan-friendly and have never been tested on animals, just because rabbits don't need to "point their eyebrows."

Aside from the compounds that make up the color - our microblade pigments contain only 4 ingredients! All non-toxic ink carriers...

Water

Propylene glycol

Glycerin

Witch hazel

Let's break it down...

Propylene Glycol and Glycerin

These are nontoxic carriers and humectants that can carry pigments into your needles or micro blade. We only add just enough creamy texture, but not too much - so that the pigment is still highly concentrated. Propylene glycol (alcohol) also disinfects and increases skin permeability. We see it used safely in the production of ice cream and intravenous drugs.

Witch Hazel

Witch hazel (Witch Hazel) is also a non-toxic carrier in cosmetic and personal care products and is used as a skin conditioner with soothing and anti-inflammatory properties to help relieve skin irritation after PMU and microblading treatments.
